27 Whiringa a rangi 2014 - Te Putea Matua o Aotearoa

Te Putea Matua o Aotearoa

Apirana50.jpg

Nō te wiki nei i whakaputaina ngā whakahoahoa hou o ngā tāra o Aotearoa. Ahakoa ngā whakaaro whakaae, whakahē rānei i ngā whakahou nei, ko tētahi painga i puta, ko te kite atu i te reo Māori o runga.

Last week, the designs of New Zealands revamped money were released. Even though you may or may not like the new designs, one good thing that has come out of it is you can now see Te Reo Māori on them.

Koinei ngā whakanikoniko hou o ngā tāra. Here is a link to the upgraded money.

This is what New Zealand's first money looked like. Ko ngā terenga tāra tuatahi o Aotearoa

Koinei tētehi whakatairanga o ngā putea hou. This is an advertisement for the new money.

As you can see, Māori designs were used to make the money look more authentic, like the native birds, the tukutuku panels, native plants and Māori designs. These are just a few examples of what you can see - huia, kea, tūī, kiwi, tīrairaka, tītitipounamu, kererū, takahe, ruru, kōtuku, hoiho, kōkako, mōhua, hei tiki, koruru, patu, tukutuku, poupou, amo nō te wharenui o Hinemihi o Te Ao Tawhito; kōwhaiwhai - ngutukura, mangōpare, māui, kōwhai ngutukākā, kaokao)

I mōhio rānei koe???

I mōhio rānei koe, nō te tau 1886, i whakatūria e Kīngi Tāwhiao tōna ake pēke i kīia ai ko Te Peeke o Aotearoa?

Did you know, in 1886, King Tāwhiao established his own bank called Te Peeke o Aotearoa?

13 Whiringa a rangi 2014 - He mana tō te ingoa

He mana tō te ingoa

Kua roa nei ētahi ingoa Māori tūturu e noho hē ana ki runga i ngā mahere whenua, i ngā tohu huarahi, i hea atu, i hea atu.

For a long time now Māōri place names have been identified or written incorrectly on maps, on street signs and heaps of other places. This week we will delve into the many facets of this topic so we do not forget the significance, importance and history of place names.

Ōtautahi is the word of the week. Click on the picture so you can watch the short video clip.
