E kīia ana, ‘Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu.’ He mātāpono mārika tēnei kia maumahara tātou ki te mihi i te tangata mō ōna whakaaro ahakoa tōna nui, ahakoa tōna iti.

The end of 2014 will be upon us before we know it and Santa and his elves are preparing to give out presents to all the people in the world that have been good. As the saying goes 'Even though it may be small it is still precious'. This is a time to remember, appreciate and to thank all those who give even if it is a big deal or not such a big deal.

Tirohia tēnei hononga! Check out this link!
He wā hoki tēnei kia titiro whakamuri ki ngā mahi o te tau ka tahi; ka rua ka anga whakamua mō te tau e tū mai nei. Nā reira, ka whakairingia ngā pātaka kōrero o #2hono2 mō te 2014, ka rewa anō hei te Huitanguru, 2015.
Hei konā mai i roto i ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te tau hou e mahuta ake nei i tōna pae. Kia pai te whakatā, kaiako mā!

This is also a time to look back over the year and reflect on what has happened; then to plan for the new year. On that note, #2hono2 will take a break for the holiday season and we will be back up and running in February 2015. Have a mean Christmas and an even meaner new year. Have an awesome break, recharge the batteries and we will see you back here next year!

27 Whiringa a rangi 2014 - Te Putea Matua o Aotearoa

Te Putea Matua o Aotearoa

Apirana50.jpg

Nō te wiki nei i whakaputaina ngā whakahoahoa hou o ngā tāra o Aotearoa. Ahakoa ngā whakaaro whakaae, whakahē rānei i ngā whakahou nei, ko tētahi painga i puta, ko te kite atu i te reo Māori o runga.

Last week, the designs of New Zealands revamped money were released. Even though you may or may not like the new designs, one good thing that has come out of it is you can now see Te Reo Māori on them.

He rauemi hei tautoko - Supporting Resources

Mātakihia Te Karere mō ngētehi atu kōrero whakamahukitanga. Watch this short clip from Te Karere for more information.

Pānuihia tēnei tuhinga mō ngētehi atu kōrero taunakitanga. Read this article for supporting information.

Koinei ngā whakanikoniko hou o ngā tāra. Here is a link to the upgraded money.

This is what New Zealand's first money looked like. Ko ngā terenga tāra tuatahi o Aotearoa

Koinei tētehi whakatairanga o ngā putea hou. This is an advertisement for the new money.

As you can see, Māori designs were used to make the money look more authentic, like the native birds, the tukutuku panels, native plants and Māori designs. These are just a few examples of what you can see - huia, kea, tūī, kiwi, tīrairaka, tītitipounamu, kererū, takahe, ruru, kōtuku, hoiho, kōkako, mōhua, hei tiki, koruru, patu, tukutuku, poupou, amo nō te wharenui o Hinemihi o Te Ao Tawhito; kōwhaiwhai - ngutukura, mangōpare, māui, kōwhai ngutukākā, kaokao)

I mōhio rānei koe???

I mōhio rānei koe, nō te tau 1886, i whakatūria e Kīngi Tāwhiao tōna ake pēke i kīia ai ko Te Peeke o Aotearoa?

Did you know, in 1886, King Tāwhiao established his own bank called Te Peeke o Aotearoa?

13 Whiringa a rangi 2014 - He mana tō te ingoa

He mana tō te ingoa

Kua roa nei ētahi ingoa Māori tūturu e noho hē ana ki runga i ngā mahere whenua, i ngā tohu huarahi, i hea atu, i hea atu.

For a long time now Māōri place names have been identified or written incorrectly on maps, on street signs and heaps of other places. This week we will delve into the many facets of this topic so we do not forget the significance, importance and history of place names.

Ōtautahi is the word of the week. Click on the picture so you can watch the short video clip.

Ngā pātai o te wiki

P2. Me pēwhea te whakaako i tōu ingoa kia tika tōna whakahua? Waihangatia tētehi pikitia whakahua o tōu ingoa.

Hei tauira mō Akaroa: Here is an example for Akaroa

P3. He aha tētahi ingoa me whakatika i tōu rohe?
What is one place name that needs to be corrected in your area? What can you do to correct the Māori name?
